Symmetrical features are photogenic. Asymmetrical features are unphotogenic.

Large features (eyes, mouth) can be photogenic. Think Julia Roberts or Cameron Diaz.

Good skin is photogenic, but, oddly, I have found that men with rough skin can photograph really well, since it can look rugged. Think Edward James Olmos.

TL;DW: Put your forehead out and down. The idea is to push your face away from your neck in order to pull the skin from your jaw a bit and make your jaw pop more.

Tilt your chin down just a touch when a picture is being taken. Makes a greater distinction between your face and your neck. Not only does it make you look thinner if that's a concern of yours it makes your cheekbones look more prominent which is an attractive feature. There's a reason at school photos they always ask you to tilt your chin down a little.

Edit: Also pick a side of your face that you prefer and tilt you head slightly so that side is facing more towards the camera. Face asymmetry is a thing but not an issue if you pick a favored side that is present in all your photos

I'm no photographer, but I was taught a trick by one. If you're taking pictures of your face (rather, someone else is taking a picture of your face) look at an object for 5~ seconds and have the camera out of your view. Then when the photographer is ready to take the picture, bring your head back into alignment and smile. Apparently your smile looks better/more natural this way, because when we try to maintain a smile for any extended periods of time, it becomes over exaggerated/awkward.
